 Sergio Fernandez

Sergio is currently a freelance photographer and videographer based out of Miami, with a strong background in experiential learning, travel, and of course, the beautiful game!

Sergio was born in Bogotá, Colombia, but moved to North Carolina at the age of four. He grew up playing soccer in the Winston-Salem area and fulfilled his dream of playing college soccer at Haverford College in Haverford, PA. With many injuries throughout his years of soccer, Sergio wanted to be an Orthopedic Surgeon and majored in Biology with a minor in Neuroscience. Off the field, he served as a peer mentor in the Pre-Health Society, as well as working several jobs in the athletic department.

Upon graduating, Sergio spent a year in Cape Town, South Africa, as the Operations & People Development Intern for Woza's partner, Grassroot Soccer (GRS). As a GRS intern, Sergio's work focused on ensuring any administrative and operational requirements were taken care of so the organization could continue to operate smoothly. On the People Development side, Sergio assisted GRS's volunteer coaches with things like resumes, college applications, and student loan applications.

While in South Africa, Sergio's passion for photography and video creation took on an entirely new level of interest, and upon returning to the US, he chose to pursue it as a profession. He hopes one day to share South Africa as a place and an experience that deeply impacted his life's trajectory. Living in such a culturally dynamic environment (as Cape Town), and seeing the positive impact that sport for development can have, Sergio is ready to lead participants through one of the most impactful experiences of their lives.

Having traveled to 16 different countries and lived on four different continents, Sergio understands the power that soccer has to break down barriers and help improve lives across the globe.

Woza offers accessible international summer service trips for high school and college soccer players, using the game to create connections across cultures and support Sport for Development and Peace organizations around the world. With soccer, service work, and cultural immersion at the heart of each itinerary, we strive to broaden perspectives of players by demonstrating their abilities to connect with people of all backgrounds and engage long term in soccer-focused social impact.
